Paddling Magazine includes our annual Paddling Buyer's Guide and the new annual Paddling Trip Guide. We also produce Kayak Angler, the world's leading kayak fishing magazine. Rapid Media also produces the Paddling Film Festival and World Tour. Over the last 20 years we’ve worked hard to become North America’s paddlesports authority.

*** Content Creator/Editor and Digital Marketing Strategist ***

We are hiring a content creator/editor and digital marketing strategist. What are we looking for? Well, we like to boil it down to needing someone who can spell, type, paddle and live in our small town. Simple right? Sort of.

The ideal candidate needs to: write compelling stories and edit works of others, share these stories through digital channels and engage and grow audiences across multiple platforms (owned, earned and paid), have an in-depth understanding of paddling skills, boats, gear and brands and have an authority voice, and have a passion to be here at the rivers and lakes where our readers dream of spending their weekends.

What else? You will be a self-driven member of our team and will play a key role in expanding our digital presence, growing the business and strengthening our brands.

• Responsible for all content marketing initiatives to drive traffic, engagement and leads
• Develop engaging content for web, print and social media to entice and engage audience
• Research ideas and facts related to paddlesports topics or contents
• Rewrite, paraphrase and write original content
• Proofread content for errors or additions and ensure that content is written per directives
• Collaborates with editorial and sales team to deliver an effective content marketing strategy and editorial plan to meet the business objectives at minimum cost
• Develop and manage editorial calendar and organization workflow
• Ensure web page content is edited properly and is search engine optimized
• Keep up-to-date on and implement SEO best practices
• Manage user-generated content on social media sites
• Manage the social media presence
• Manage e-newsletter production and design
• Aid with storyboards and video scripting using a variety of media creation and graphics editing tools and software
• Copy, edit and review content for style guidelines, brand consistency, and voice

• Strong background in writing compelling content for websites, blogs, and editing
• Hands on experience in content research, strategy and content writing
• Background or education in marketing, writing and journalism
• Well versed in social strategy and content marketing
• Passion for content marketing and driving real ROI and results
• Savvy in the world of data, analytics and digital publishing
• Organized, focused and disciplined, and resourceful
• Get it done attitude
• Always have your gear in your truck for after-work adventures

*** Additional Information ***

We are located in Palmer Rapids, which is a small community with a big heart and quite a bit going on throughout the year. Our office is on the river-right bank of the Madawaska, five minutes downstream from class II-III+ Palmer Rapids, less than an hour from the mighty Ottawa River and right in the middle between Algonquin Park and Calabogie Peaks ski resort. We paddle, ride bikes, ski regularly and go swimming from the dock at lunchtime.

The position is currently based out of our office in Palmer Rapids. Alternative longer-term arrangements may be made after you become familiar with our business—think two to three years of in-house work first. We are only two hours to Ottawa, and three hours to Toronto.

Our team consists of a publisher, three editors, film festival tour coordinator, director of sales, advertising and sponsorship coordinator, designer and production coordinator, marketing coordinator, digital project manager, circulation manager and account manager. Most of us wear flip-flops and have never once sat at our desks wearing heels or ties.
