Editor, Toronto

A small, dynamic B2B publisher is looking for a new Editor. Hardlines Inc. is the leading information service for home improvement retailers and suppliers. We cover the industry with print and online products, and world-class events.

As Editor, you will be part of a small team of motivated individuals where everyone makes a difference. You must be a self-motivated team player who can work independently, thrives under pressure, excels in multi-tasking—and can work to strict deadlines. This job requires you to step outside the traditional Editor’s role and be integral to driving the success of this company in an integrated fashion. That includes signoff on all copy from our Team.

When conditions permit, you will be expected to travel, and you will be an ambassador for our publications to the industry we serve. This is a full-time, six-month contract position to start, turning into permanent employment and working from home for the indefinite future.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with our Assistant Editor and a roster of freelancers, the Editor’s key responsibility is producing a trade magazine, Hardlines Home Improvement Quarterly, four times a year;

  • You will be responsible for writing and producing our monthly electronic newsletter, Hardlines Dealer News;

  • overseeing our Assistant Editor’s delivery of our Daily News;

  • Proofing and finalizing of our weekly flagship Hardlines newsletter;

  • Managing output of our Reports;

  • Help organize Hardlines Conference, liaise with speakers prior to and on the day of the event;

  • Manage our awards program, including judging and gala event, communicating with winners, organize marketing/promotional photos.

Additional core responsibilities will involve some social media work and building engagement with our readership.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent training

  • At least 3-5 years editorial experience (B2B preferred)

  • Excellent writing, proofreading and interpersonal communication skills

    Proven ability to create compelling and engaging digital content

  • Dreamweaver

  • Adobe Acrobat
